What is your system doing?

Most calls fall into one of three buckets. Find the one that sounds like your house or your building, then call and describe it in your own words — no technical vocabulary required.

Who shows up

Joseph Barham,
The HVAC Guy.

Joseph is a Certified Master HVAC Technician with more than ten years in the field. He runs Successful Services himself, which means the person who answers the phone is the person who diagnoses your system and the person who stands behind the repair.

He works out of a truck rather than a showroom, across four states, on houses and on commercial buildings. If it heats, cools or moves air, he has already seen a version of your problem.

Common questions

Straight answers before you call.

The questions Joseph gets asked most, answered the way he would answer them on the phone.

Why is my AC blowing warm air?

Most often it is a failed capacitor, a tripped breaker, a clogged filter choking airflow, or low refrigerant from a leak. A capacitor is a same-day fix. Low refrigerant means there is a leak somewhere, and topping it up without finding the leak just delays the problem. If the outdoor unit is running but the air inside is warm, call before the compressor takes the strain.

How much does an HVAC service call cost in Maryland?

Diagnostic visits in the Baltimore and DC area generally run in the low hundreds, and common repairs such as a capacitor or contactor usually land in the same range once parts are included. Full system replacement is a different conversation entirely. Joseph gives you the number before any work starts, not after.

How quickly can someone get out to me?

Successful Services is owner-operated, so you are talking to the technician rather than a dispatcher. Standard hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. No-heat and no-cooling calls get priority, and after 5:00 PM the same number handles genuine emergencies.

How often should an HVAC system be serviced?

Twice a year is the standard: cooling in spring, heating in autumn. If you only do one, do the heating check, because that is the side with combustion, and a cracked heat exchanger or a failing burner is a safety issue rather than a comfort issue.

My furnace keeps turning on and off. What is that?

That is short-cycling. Common causes are an oversized system, a dirty flame sensor, a blocked flue, a failing limit switch, or a thermostat placed somewhere it reads the wrong temperature. It burns fuel and wears the unit out early, so it is worth diagnosing rather than living with.

Do you work on commercial systems?

Yes. Rooftop units, split systems, preventive maintenance contracts, electrical and burner safety checks, and after-hours service so a business does not lose trading time. Restaurants, offices and retail across the DMV.

Which areas do you cover?

Maryland including Baltimore, Annapolis, Columbia, Prince George's and Montgomery County; all of Washington, D.C.; Northern Virginia including Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax; and northern Delaware including Wilmington and Newark.

Is it worth repairing an older system or should I replace it?

The rough rule is the age of the unit multiplied by the repair cost. If that exceeds the price of a new system, replacement usually wins. Systems past about fifteen years, on obsolete refrigerant, or needing a compressor or heat exchanger are typically replacement territory. Joseph will tell you when a repair is the smarter spend.

Tell him what it's doing. He'll tell you what it needs.

No call center, no ticket number. You get Joseph, and you get a real diagnosis.
